SWE Rocky Mountain Section – Girls Exploring Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math – May 16

Loading Events

The Society of Women Engineers Rocky Mountain Section invites you to partner with them in producing Girls Exploring Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (GESTEM).

GESTEM is an exciting event that introduces middle school girls to the wide range of opportunities in potential careers in STEM fields through hands-on workshops and interaction with engineering professionals. RMS hosts 1,000+ girls at the Auraria campus at no cost to the girls to attend. This one-day, large-scale outreach event will be held on Thursday, May 16, at the Denver Auraria campus. They are actively seeking workshop presenters, volunteer guides, and financial support.

    • They invite you become a workshop presenter. As a 2024 GESTEM presenter you and your team will host hands-on workshops with the goal to teach the attendees about a STEM topic of your choice. In each workshop, you will get to engage with each girl, answer questions they have and hopefully inspire them to pursue their dreams in STEM. They will look to you and your team to lead them through a hands-on workshop. Some examples of previous workshops include building solar cars, catapults or even space rockets! You will host three 50 minute workshops with 25-50 girls per session. Previous presenters have said this day is “extremely rewarding” and they’re “grateful for the chance to volunteer their time to expose the next generation of STEM enthusiasts”. The total number of girls that they can host is only limited by the number of workshops they can present. Their most successful workshop are hands-on activities for the girls to exploring engineering ideas. More information and the application to be a presenter are at swe-rms.swe.org/gestem/volunteers/
    • Volunteer as a group guide. Their group guides will lead a group of 8-10 students through their three hands-on workshops. This is a wonderful opportunity to interact one-on-one with the students! To guide students from workshop to workshop, they need over 200 volunteers. The call for volunteers will open soon. swe-rms.swe.org/gestem/volunteers/
    • Support GESTEM as a financial partner. Sponsorship levels with benefits are set to fit a variety of budgets. As little as $45 helps support one student GESTEM experience, and benefits for partners begin at $1,000. You can see their prospectus and contribute at swe-rms.swe.org/gestem/sponsor/.

For more information on how you are helping to make a difference, they invite you to visit their website at swe-rms.swe.org/. You can also find information there on their upcoming events for this year and volunteer opportunities.

If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact SWE RMS at swerms@gmail.com, swe.gestem@gmail.com, or swe.rms.funds@gmail.com. Thank you again, and they look forward to your support.

Sincerely,
