State and Federal regulatory agencies, including CDPHE and EPA have prioritized reducing ozone levels. In Colorado, the ozone non-attainment level was changed to Serious from Moderate in 2020, and Governor Polis has indicated that he will not contest a further downgrade to Severe in 2022.
VOC emissions from oil and gas development, particularly from oil storage tanks, are significant contributors to ozone formation in the Denver Metro and Front Range area. Operators first turned to flaring gas coming from the oil in the tanks to reduce VOCs, but that process generated NOx, the other component of ozone. To reduce ozone levels further, both VOC and NOx emissions need to be significantly and simultaneously decreased. Over the past ten years, EcoVapor has developed and deployed innovative solutions that do just that. In fact, by incorporating full-tank vapor capture along with no-bleed pneumatic controllers and electrification, modern, multi-well production facilities can achieve effectively zero emission profiles, and do so at a profit.
