This presentation will provide an overview of Colorado’s new TENORM regulation, 6 CCR 1007-1, Part 20 – Registration and Licensing of Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (TENORM). Part 20 became effective on January 14, 2021 and the requirements in Part 20 will become enforceable on July 14, 2022. This presentation will summarize the key requirements in Part 20 including TENORM determination, exemption, registration, and licensing. This presentation will also introduce the implementation guidance and tools that can be used for compliance with Part 20.
Shiya Wang is the Uranium and TENORM lead with the State of Colorado, Radiation Program. She joined the Radiation Program in 2012 and has worked as the health physicist for uranium, regulating all uranium mills in Colorado. She has also been working on developing and implementing the new TENORM regulation. She also has experience in CERCLA processes and oversees other sites such as water treatment facilities, TENORM disposal facilities, and properties under environmental covenants.
