CEMS Contribution to Charities and Scholarships

CO Environmental Management Society provides a contribution to a designated charity and/or fundraising effort each year. Typically, the annual contribution is distributed later in the year. A notice of the contribution is presented in the monthly newsletter for notice to the members.

Each year, CEMS elects to make one or more charitable donations to worthy organizations. This year, the CEMS Board voted to direct its entire charitable giving effort to Front Range flood relief via the Lyons Community Foundation. 100% of monies collected for the Lyons Community Foundation are sent to the Rebuild Lyons, One Life at a Time Campaign, a joint effort of the Lyons Community Foundation and the Lyons Community Basic Needs and Emergency Fund. Over $950,000 has already been donated to the Rebuild Lyons campaign, and individuals and families affected by the flood have received grants of up to $5,000. CEMS is proud to support this organization and the families who will receive much-needed assistance.

In addition, the Society provides three scholarships each year for collegiate candidates with studies focused in the environmental science, engineering, or law arenas. The annual scholarship coordination, including development and distribution of the scholarship application, is led by the Scholarship Committee. Typically, the annual scholarship application is distributed in the November and applications are due in February of the following year. The applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee and recommendations on scholarship awards are presented to the Board for approval in February. A notice of the scholarship awards are made to the recipients and presented in the monthly newsletter for notice to the members.
